For the Birds!
About
Hi, I’m Thea — a lifelong lover of the natural world.
By day, I write for a national recycling coalition. I hold an M.A. in environmental journalism and a B.S. in biology and chemistry, and I’ve worked in environmental communications since 2012. I’m also training to become a New York State Master Naturalist — an exploration that’s deepening my curiosity in urban ecology and the overlooked wild corners of every city.
Why For the Birds?
Growing up, my abusive father used to hurl those words — “for the birds” — at me as a way of dismissing my feelings. Reclaiming it now as the name of my blog is a way of transmuting something painful into something joyful and expressive. Yes, I write for the birds — but really for all the wild, resilient beauty that insists on survival.
